We’re in Reims, the weather is fine, the sky is blue...

A stone's throw from the Place du Forum you’ll find a brightly cobbled street called Rue de Tambour. In the distance, a neon sign in the shape of a burger catches our eye.
We have reached our destination: N°24 on this same street, and we have a great excuse for being here. We have come to check out a restaurant that specializes in burgers that goes by the name of Sacré Burger.

To bring you our report on this popular eatery in Reims, we had a good long chat with its manager, Maxime Chenet.

Super good!

Its customers all agree: it’s the eatery in Reims. But how did it all get started? According to Maxime, "Sacré Burger was a food truck to begin with. For two years the founders, Victor and Constant, drove around Reims and the surrounding villages before finally setting up here at 24 Rue de Tambour.

The concept? Serve homemade burgers, street food basically, with an extensive wine list.
The burgers all come with regal names: Clovis, Charlemagne, Louis XIV, François 1st... You get to choose your king! We are told that Sacré Burger buys directly from producers in the local food network and gives pride of place to quality produce.

A friendly welcome, a bit of banter and then it was time to order.
In the end, we went for three Charlemagnes and a Benoît Lahaye Blanc de Noirs! A few minutes later, it was time to get stuck in.

During this champagne and burger tasting, a first for me and an experience I will gladly repeat, Maxime tells us more about the Sacré Burger concept.

"As regards the wine & champagne list: we have this list because we like to drink what’s on it. If we don't like it, we don't sell it! We want things that are well crafted from A to Z."

No shortage of ideas

They may no longer be on the road but they are still very much on the move! Through a variety of unlikely collaborations (…Champagne Krug, the music label Ed Banger and a Michelin starred chef), they are creating their own vision of the Champagne art of living. "We love doing new things, it's in our DNA. And we would like to thank all those who have believed in us and helped us since the beginning" says Maxime.

Beyond the burger

To take their unique wine & burger pairing concept further, the team went so far as to design their own glass with Lehmann. The result: mouth-blown glasses for tasting the champagne and red and white wines that are aligned with their image.
Taking things further still, it would seem that they might be having a stab at producing their own champagne cuvée... Wait & See!

The main dish has been devoured. After a cheeky, but well-deserved, dessert, it's time for us to go back to work (and to write this article)!
