Vign'Art is an annual festival of modern art held in France's Champagne region that brings together champagne and art. The concept, born in 2018, arose from a desire to create a contemporary art and land art festival in the Champagne region. The Champagne landscape is the subject of the works with the objective being to highlight its natural resources.

For the second edition, the jury selected 14 works, which will be exhibited in 14 locations around Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne area.

Solide de Platon, par Florent Poussineau

Location: Point d’eau de Bisseuil

Florent Poussineau is a French visual artist and culinary designer. He created Solide de Platon from wooden and steel beams. The wooden beams are filled with earth and aromatic plants with edible flowers at the top. The work of art’s appearance will gradually evolve over the 4 months of the exhibition to offer a final harvest to the viewing public.

Le poids des sillons, par Laurine Ménissier 

Location: Bouzy

Laurine Ménissier is a French visual artist. Le poids des sillons is composed of eight steel structures, from which hang eight strips of cotton material bearing texts and depicting vineyard work. The art installation shows the winegrower at her work: first bent over to reach the vine, then gradually straightening up as she moves through the vineyard.

Interconnections, par Wela

Location: Fossé de Brugny

Wela is a Polish painter, graphic designer, illustrator and sculptor. Interconnections is composed of several light elements made of wire mesh, coloured wire and wooden poles. The work is a reference to the findings of researchers who have noticed interconnections between plants, animals and humans.

Triangle amoureux, par Betty Rieckmann

Location: Lavoir de Brugny

Wela is a Polish painter, graphic designer, illustrator and sculptor. Interconnections is composed of several light elements made of wire mesh, coloured wire and wooden poles. The work is a reference to the findings of researchers who have noticed interconnections between plants, animals and humans.

Éloge des dessous, par Nicolas Triboulot

Location: Lisière de Chavot

Nicolas Triboulot is a French artist-designer. L'Éloge des dessous is made up of parallelepipeds surrounded by golden film. The work evolves throughout the day and the seasons, and at night it sparkles thanks to lighting inside the structure. The installation is intended to pay homage to the subsoils, highlighting the fact that the earth will not last forever if we do not take care of it.

Bon retour, par Caty Laurent

Location: Mont Bernon, Épernay

Caty Laurent is a French mosaic artist. Bon retour is composed of 150 stylised birds, made from slates and suspended 5 metres high. Swaying in the wind, the work symbolises the recognition of the importance of preserving the environment. Biodynamics enables the fauna and flora in the vineyards to spring back into life and the birds to return.

Grappers’ comment:

"Be like the bird, a bird lives on fresh air and fresh water... ". We’ll leave you with that thought!

Dominos, par DEC

Location: Notre-Dame-du-Gruguet, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ

DEC is a French visual artist and designer. Each component of Dominos is made of wood covered with a printed and stretched tarpaulin. The installation, which contrasts with the setting, creates a visual and playful dynamic. It pays homage to the different occupations practised in the Champagne region.

Space Continuum, par Karen Macher Nesta

Location: Château de Moussy

Karen Macher Nesta is a Peruvian sculptor. The pyramid is made of steel and represents a mountain. In Peruvian culture, mountains are entities that connect and communicate between our world and the world of the gods. The artist was inspired by an existing doorway already on the location as a symbol of passage.

Le chant de la vigne, par Anne Moret et Noémie Carvalho

Location: Loge table de Moussy

Anne Moret is a musician and visual artist and Noémie Carvalho is a ceramic artist. Le chant de la vigne is a sound installation made of porcelain and bare steel. It reflects the rows of vines, ordered yet sinuous. The viewing public has a heightened sensory perception of the surrounding landscape, a poetic experience that pays homage to the patience and perseverance demanded by the winegrower's craft.

Please don’t join in with the “chant de la vigne” (the song of the vine) if you sing out of tune!

Nids de raisin, par Marie-Louise J.A. van den Akker

Location: Hauteurs de Pierry

Marie-Louise J.A. van den Akker is a Dutch painter. The installation consists of nine giant grape nests placed alongside the vineyard. The nests are created from two tree trunk quarters and are lined with copper foil. With this creation, the artist wants to draw the public's attention to the importance of the sun to the grapes.

Effervescence, par Myriam Roux

Location: Vinay picnic area

Myriam Roux is a French visual artist. The 15 wicker structures that make up the work represent the effervescence that is symbolic of champagne. The aromas released by the champagne bubbles excite and arouse, they have a euphoric effect. Here, Effervescence brings this feeling to life.

Rayon doré, par 1 Week 1 project

Location: Les Padelles de Vinay

1 Week 1 Project is a collective of architectural artists. Rayon doré is composed of 14 "screens" and mirror surfaces. The installation represents a giant champagne bubble, visible in the distant landscape. This bubble expresses the first instant of intoxication induced by champagne, a moment of well-being.

We’d like to see the bottle of champagne that produced such a large bubble!

Réflexions en Champagne, par Bob Budd

Location: Maison Gosset, Épernay

Bob Budd is an English visual artist and architect. This giant rolling pin is given an acrylic mirror covering to reflect the surrounding landscape. It is held up by two wooden supports. Réflexions en Champagne is an ironic and humorous work, which also alludes to the importance of the human hand in the creation of this landscape.

Quadrum, par La Fuite

Location: Maison Bollinger, Côte aux enfants, Aÿ-Champagne

La Fuite is a collective of French architects. Quadrum is a wooden frame representing a window on life. Through this work, La Fuite wants to show that the vineyards are in perpetual motion. The vineyard becomes the main protagonist of this installation.
