Wine tourism in style in Chigny-Les-Roses

Sep 16, 2020 • 2 mins

At Domaine du Chalet in Chigny-les-Roses, Palmer & Co is taking advantage of the growing demand for wine tourism in Champagne whilst underpinning its reputation for excellence with its international clientèle.

Two helicopters were waiting patiently for their crew on the lawn at Domaine du Chalet. “This is a first for us” explains François Demouy, Head of Communication at Palmer & Co. The request for a helicopter landing had been received just the day before. Although the domaine does not have a landing pad, the lawn was deemed suitable for the purpose.

With champagne houses such as Palmer & Co seeking to meet customers’ expectations for “exclusive yet accessible” wine tourism, they are having to adapt to the needs of today’s primarily British, Swiss, Belgian and Swedish clientele (countries where Champagne Palmer has the strongest market presence), as well as a hip Parisian customers looking for a last-minute getaway closeby. “We acquired Domaine du Chalet in September 2017 and it’s only been open since February but word of mouth travels very fast among fi ne champagne lovers and we already have bookings right through to the end of October”.  At that moment, the whirr of rotors could be heard and the helicopters took to the skies just a few minutes later.

Taking a break from the outside world

When building her weekend residence in Chigny-les-Roses back in 1860, Madame Pommery would certainly never have conceived of a helicopter landing!

But we imagine that this entrepreneurial and visionary woman would have approved of this development of her 14-hectare property, set in the heart of the Montagne de Reims’ Regional Nature Park, surrounded by vineyards and planted with rare species that she brought back with her from her travels.

Guests staying in one of the residence’s 4 suites, or the one constructed 10 metres above the ground amid the leaves of a centuries’ old red beech tree, are in for a taste of true French art-de-vivre. The heated indoor swimming pool (28°C all year round) is just the icing on the cake!

Chef Damien Litaudon offers guests an unforgettable gastronomic and oenological experience that immerses them in the world of wine and the history of Palmer & Co.
