Salon-Delamotte: two Champagne Houses dedicated to the Chardonnay grape
An iconic champagne, just like the famous Petrus in Bordeaux or the Domaine de la Romanée Conti in Burgundy, Salon likes to cultivate an air of mystery and the art of discretion. Grappers paid a visit to Mesnil-sur-Oger, where it all began.
When you enter Salon, you are experiencing the very best of Champagne production first hand. Every sommelier, wine store owner and discerning collector dreams of one day trying this exceptional champagne. If Salon is an icon, it is above all because of its rarity. Since its creation in 1905, only 42 vintages have been released from the Mesnil-sur-Oger cellars. How does one describe such a complex champagne? According to Didier Depond, president of Salon-Delamotte since 1997, "Salon is above all a great white wine. A Champagne wine with a mouthfeel of a rare finesse."
The Chardonnay, which comes exclusively from Mesnil-sur-Oger, grows in chalky soil. midway up the slope. This water-soaked chalk can be detected on the palate and expresses its freshness and a lively tension.
