Celebrity Champagnes: when the USA get involved

In recent years, American celebrities seem to have been jumping on the wine and spirit brands bandwagon and wine estates, vodka, tequilas and whiskies backed by the rich and famous have been popping up all over the place.

So, what about champagne? Whether or not you like the idea of celebrity champagnes, the American celebrities who have invested in the region have, without doubt, helped build awareness of champagne on the other side of the Atlantic. So, let's take a look at some of these very special champagnes...

Armand de Brignac: Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s trump card

The famous American rapper Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé's love of champagne is no secret. In 2014, the U.S.A.’s most bankable couple bought Armand de Brignac for an undisclosed but, no doubt, astronomical sum of money. The transaction caused quite a stir in the Champagne region at the time.

The Cattier Champagne House still produces this atypical champagne today. Created by Nelly Cattier in the 1950s and destined for the great Parisian eateries, the bottle was designed by the Courrèges fashion house and adorned with an ace of spades in reference to the French monarchy.

The purists may not like it, but America and American rappers have wholeheartedly embraced the Armand de Brignac phenomenon! What’s more, L'As de Pique is recognised as being a top-quality, high-end and finely-crafted champagne, as shown by its listings in Michelin-starred restaurants.

Jay-Z has succeeded in making Armand de Brignac one of the most famous champagnes (not to say one of the most expensive - costing around €300 for the Brut!) in the world.


Le Chemin du Roi: priced at somewhat more than 50 cents…

How could we write about celebrity champagne without mentioning 50 Cent, who, after launching his own cognac brand, turned his sights on the Champagne region?

The American king of rap decided he would create his own champagne brand and, in 2018, Le Chemin du Roi was born. The bottle, which comes with a 14-carat gold chess piece, sells at prices ranging from $200 for the Brut to $1000 for the Blanc de Blancs.

Produced by Champagne Castelnau, Le Chemin du Roi benefits from the same selection of crus and the same extended ageing as the Champagne House’s other champagnes, a painstaking, high-quality production process that has earned it numerous awards!


Fleur de Miraval: Angelina and Brad’s new baby

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been investing in French wine since 2011. They acquired Château de Miraval in the Var region in the South of France and in so doing helped to build the reputation of rosé wine in the United States. But that was not the end of their adventure as, in October 2020, they launched their own champagne brand, Fleur de Miraval.

Working in close collaboration with Rodolphe Péters, a highly-respected winemaker from the Côte des Blancs, Brad and Angelina's Champagne House is entirely devoted to the production of rosé champagne. This collaboration, which was long kept secret, is the fruit of 5 years of painstaking R&D aimed at creating a new and exciting champagne for lovers of rosé champagnes.
